Silent Disco Coming to UTM

Updated: Jan 28, 2022

UTM’s Flight Crew along with the Office of Student Life and Multicultural Affairs is bringing a silent disco to campus. On Tuesday, November 2, you can join them on the University Center Patio from 6 pm to 8 pm. DJVON and DJEXEFFECT will be battling for control over your headphones.

Participants will want to dress warmly, as temperatures will begin to drop after dusk. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the UC Ballroom.

You may be asking yourself, “What is a silent disco?” Silent disco participants wear headphones to listen to music, opposed to the traditional speaker blaring the music. This gives the appearance of everyone dancing to nothing. The idea was used by eco-activists in the early 1990s, utilizing headphones at outdoor parties to minimize noise pollution and disturbance to the local wildlife.
