Westview was on the road Friday night in Selmer, Tennessee to open region play against the McNairy Central Bobcats.
Westview entered Friday night boasting a 2-0 record after defeating Portland and Gibson County in weeks 1 and 2. McNairy came into the contest 0-2 after losses to Hardin County and Peabody.
Entering week 3 action, Westview’s Ty Simpson was ranked 3rd in west Tennessee with 374 total passing yards and 7 touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his passes. Westview also had Javion Goins ranked 4th in receiving, Hayden Smith 6th in tackling, JT Carver 1st in kicking, and Jackson Abel 2nd in punting.
Things started out a little sloppy as the Chargers turned the ball over on their first offensive drive, which eventually turned into a Bobcats touchdown. Westview was able to get things straightened out and tie the game 7-7 by the end of the first quarter.
The Chargers did not look back as they added three more touchdowns in the second quarter to boast a 28-7 lead heading into the half. Quarterback Ty Simpson threw the ball for 159 yards in the first half.
Westview and McNairy each added a touchdown in the third quarter to bring the score to 35-13. The Chargers went on to win by that score.
Westview improves to 1-0 in district 7-3A and 3-0 overall. McNairy Central falls to 0-1 in the region and 0-3 overall.
Westview will be back in action Friday, September 11 on the road against Obion County.
