The UT Martin Women’s basketball team picked up a huge win last night. The Skyhawks defeated in-state rival Tennessee Tech 71-62 to win their fourth straight game and move into first place in the OVC standings.

The defense was a big key for UT Martin on the evening, as they held one of the conference's best scoring offenses to just 62 points. After a hot shooting start for both teams, UT Martin held the Golden Eagles to just 26 points in the 2nd half and 31.6% shooting over the final three quarters. The Skyhawk defense played at its best in crunch time, as it held Tennessee Tech scoreless in the final 3 minutes.

Chelsey Perry led the team with 37 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks on the night. Maddie Waldrop secured another double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Dasia Young pitched in 11 points and 5 rebounds.

The team returns to action Saturday as they host Jacksonville State, with Skyhawk legends Jasmine Newsome and Heather Butler set to have their jerseys retired in between the men's and women's games.
