The University of Tennessee at Martin GeoClub partnered with the Discovery Park of America in Union City last week to celebrate Earth Science Week.
The American GeoScience Institute set the theme as "Earth Materials In Our Lives." All week long, UT Martin GeoClub students hosted virtual events talking about water, petroleum and other earth materials.
Members of the GeoClub took Saturday, Oct. 17 to help attendees identify their unusual rocks and minerals as well as educate them about Earth materials they use in their every day lives.
Jack Garrett, a member of the GeoClub, said Earth Science Week is crucial, especially in rural places, where scientific activities are limited.
"The goal is to help the public gain a better understanding of Earth science, and just science, in general."
