The UT Martin Football team picked up another win over the weekend. The Skyhawks improved to 4-0 in OVC play and 5-2 on the season.
Things didn't look promising as Eastern Illinois struck first as Raymond Crittenden returned a John Bacchus fumble 51 yards for the opening score. The Panthers would convert a 2 point conversion to make it an 8-0 game.
UT Martin responded with a 6 play 71-yard drive, capped off with a 21 yard John Bacchus to Terry Williams touchdown pass to cut the lead to 8-7. On the ensuing Panther possession, Union City, Tennessee native D'Carrious Stephens returned an interception 26 yards for another score to give the Skyhawks a 14-8 lead.
An Eastern Illinois field goal would make it a 14-11 game heading into the second quarter before Bacchus would find tight end, Davin Dyal for a 6-yard score. The Skyhawks would carry their 21-11 lead into the halftime break.
Two 2nd Half Ryan Courtright field goals would prove to be the difference in the game. A new career-long of 46 yards with just over 5 minutes to play gave the game its final 9 point margin of 27-18.
The Skyhawks will be back on the road this weekend as they travel to Cape Girardeau for a matchup with the Southeast Missouri Redhawks.
