Ty Simpson Commits to the University of Alabama

Ty Simpson commits to play college football at Alabama

Highly-recruited 5-star class of 2022 quarterback, Ty Simpson, announced his commitment to play college football at the University of Alabama on Friday afternoon.

On his social media a few weeks ago, Simpson announced his top five schools, which consisted of Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and UT Martin.

Simpson made his commitment at Westview High School with a large crowd of classmates, teammates, family, media, and members of the Martin community.

"I can't ask for a better community," the quarterback said when asked about what the Martin community has meant to him. He also went on the say, "I have had a great support system around me in this school of friends and teammates." Simpson also added, "this community is truly special, and y'all make it fun to be a Westview Charger."

"Football is such a big part of my life. I have grown up on a football field," Simpson said during his commitment. Ty, who is the son of UT Martin football head coach Jason Simpson, comes from a long history of football.

Simpson, who is currently a junior at Westview, said "it was not an easy decision at all." He said that he went back and forth on his decision, even into last night, but when he woke up this morning, Simpson was confident in his decision.

Simpson said that a big part of his decision to join the Crimson Tide was attributed to the players and coaching staff which is spearheaded by Nick Sabin. Alabama coming off of a National Championship title and their history of sending players to the NFL also played a roll in picking Alabama.

With one more season left to play for the Chargers, Simpson said "this year, I feel like we are going to go on a state tournament run."

Westview football was reclassified to 2A in the fall after dropping enrollment numbers. In addition to Westview, region 7 features Union City, Camden, Gibson County, Huntington, and Houston County.

Westview will open their football season on August 20 at UTM where they will host the Dresden Lions.
