This year’s breakfast in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Martin originally scheduled for Jan. 15 has been canceled due to inclement weather.
Brad Thompson, the director of the City of Martin Economic and Community Development, made the announcement on Friday, saying it was “in the best interest of the community” based on weather forecasts.
“We are meeting next week to discuss presenting awards and doing a media release,” Thompson stated in an email. “We are all so disappointed to have to make this decision.”
The MLK Breakfast is a Town and Gown Association event sponsored by the City of Martin, UT Martin and the UTM Black Student Association. It has been held annually since 2013.
