University of Tennessee at Martin student tested for COVID-19

The University of Tennessee at Martin officials sent an email to students Wednesday regarding a student who has exhibited symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

The email, sent by Dr. Andy Lewter, vice chancellor for student affairs, said officials were informed that the individual had been in University Mail Services located in Clement Hall. Although the person's test results are not yet avaialble, the area is now closed and will be cleaned thoroughly.

Mail Services employees have been asked to stay home until test results are known. Alternative plans for receiving mail will be announced Thursday, Lewter said in the email.

Lewter suggested that students continue to practice social distancing measures. UTM is working with the Tennessee Department of Health "to follow the guidelines to ensure the safety and health of the campus community."

Weakley County has no reported cases of the coronavirus.
