State of the Union
President Trump's State of the Union address Tuesday was filled with tweet-able moments. The President listed what he considers his political wins (the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement and the assassination of Qasam Soleimani). Trump awarded conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom and planned a surprise military family reunion. Trump appeared to avoid a handshake from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Pelosi appeared to rip up the President's speech he concluded.
A majority of the results are in after a daylong vote-reporting issue in the Iowa Democratic caucuses. Pete Buttigieg holds a lead over Bernie Sanders, and both hold a commanding margin over the rest of the pack. While Buttigieg claimed victory, this year's caucus results reveal a divide in Democratic voters and have done little to separate the field of top candidates. Underperforming candidates, like former Vice President Joe Biden, have a lot to deal with as the primary season continues. Between his successful address, his upcoming acquittal and the Iowa debacle, President Trump has a clear upper-hand over Democrats.
