For the seventh consecutive year, the Lady Chargers will make the three hour drive from Martin, Tennessee, to the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro to compete in the TSSAA class AA high school state basketball tournament.

Westview heads into the state tournament boasting a 25-1 record and holding the district 13-AA and region 7-AA crowns.

Westview captured the district 13-AA title after defeating Crockett County 52-29 and taking down South Gibson 40-20 in the district championship.

The Lady Chargers then rolled through region play by beating McNairy Central 63-33 in the first round. They then ended Chester County's season by defeating them 51-33. Westview then took down number one ranked Jackson South Side 48-40 in the region 7-AA championship game to cap off region play.

On Saturday, Fayette-Ware came to Martin to take on Westview in a sub-state matchup with a trip to Murfreesboro on the line.

Fayette-Ware, who only had six active players, came into the game with a clear game plan; control the pace. The Wildcats did just that as they held the ball for most of the game. Westview was able to combat the Wildcats' plan by applying defensive pressure and converting on a high percentage of their shots.

The Lady Chargers took down Fayette-Ware 29-23 to punch their ticket to the glass house.

Westview looks to make another deep state tournament run after advancing to the state championship game last year before the tournament was canceled due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Westview is set to take on Meigs County at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday.

The game can be streamed with a NFHS subscription. WUTM will also post quarterly score updates on our social media, @wutmradio.
