The Westview Chargers were in Covington, Tennessee Friday night to take on the Covington Chargers in a Region 7-3A matchup. Both teams entered the contest boasting a 4-0 record and looked to remain perfect on the season.
Covington wasted no time getting on the board as they scored on the first play of the game to take a 7-0 lead. From the start, things were not going Westview’s way as their first drive of the game resulted in a snap over punter Jackson Abel’s head on 4th down which gave Covington possession on the 2 yard line. A 2 yard run put Covington up 13-0 after a missed PAT attempt.
Westview’s bad luck continued on the next play as they fumbled on the kickoff return which put the football back into the hands of Covington. Covington once again broke away for a long touchdown run to extend their lead to 20-0. Westview was able to string together an impressive offensive drive on their next possession which resulted in a touchdown run by quarterback Ty Simpson to put Westview on the board 20-7. That touchdown would provide the only points of the night for Westview.
After the Westview touchdown, it was all Covington for the rest of the game. Covington dominated on both sides of the ball as Westview couldn’t find an answer to Covington’s run game. Covington’s speed and aggressive defense proved too much for Westview as Covington came out victorious with a final score of 53-7.
Westview heads to Tiptonville next Friday to take on the Lake County Falcons.
