UTM student publications honored at journalism conference

MARTIN, Tenn. — WUTM staff members worked throughout the fall semester to enter competitions like the Intercollegiate Broadcasting Systems and the Southeast Journalism Conference.

The hard work has paid off.

WUTM won five trophies at the Southeast Journalism Conference during spring break, continuing an award-winning tradition. The University of Tennessee at Martin’s newspaper, The Pacer, also took home an award.

UT Martin student publications won the following awards:

  • Kayla Brooks - 5th place in College Journalist of the Year

  • Kayla Brooks - 2nd place in Best Multimedia Journalist

  • Tatum Baldwin - 3rd place in Best Radio News Feature Reporter

  • WUTM-FM 90.3 - 3rd place in Best College Audio News Program

  • WUTM-FM 90.3 - 3rd place in Best College Radio Station

  • Colby Anderson - 1st place in Best Opinion/Editorial Writer for The Pacer

UT Martin students have now placed in College Journalist of the Year for the past three years with Brooks preceded by Jenson Greenberg and Sarah Knapp.

The Pacer wasn’t eligible to enter the Best College Newspaper category because it is published exclusively online.

The competition was to be hosted in Louisiana but was moved online due to COVID-19.
