Summer Is Over As The Boys Of Fall Return For A New Season

Jamborees and scrimmages are done. Football that actually counts for wins and losses returns to the 731 on Thursday night, as the Westview Chargers are set to host their rival, the Dresden Lions.

Last season saw both Westview and Dresden's season end in the second round of the playoffs in their respected regions. Both schools ended last season with a winning record at 9-3. Westview won 2a Region 7 by going a perfect 5-0, but with every new season, there always comes change.

Westview saw 16 players graduate and move on to new stages of life back in May. Two of them stayed in Martin to play with the hometown Skyhawks, Hayden Smith and Quincy Hamilton. Smith left the program with the all time tackles record set at 486. Hamilton finished his senior year doing anything and everything on both sides of the ball, and earned himself a semifinalist spot for the Mr. Football award.

Offensive lineman, Ashton Kirschner, signed to play at Indiana State University. Micah Daniels and Omarion Harris both signed to play at Bethel University, located in McKenzie. Defensive lineman, Davey Richardson, signed a football grant-in-aid to Taylor University in Indiana.

Now it's time for 2023. Westview football is looking a little bit different. Miles Vincent is in the driver seat after Craig Ross graduated after just one season at Westview. Nolan Pritchett is back for his junior season, and is primed to be the leader of this team. Last year, Pritchett tallied 132 total tackles, 5 sacks, and 9 tackles for loss.

Some other notables for this team are Cooper Spaulding, Cody Meeks, Cam and Cayden Davis, Donteze Joy, Christopher Damron, Damarion Pearson, and Rhett Hays.

Westview is back in 3a after a brief stint in 2a, and the season kicks off Thursday night at 7.

WUTM will have the call starting with pregame at 6:45. Tune in on 90.3 "The Hawk."
