University of Tennessee at Martin student athletes are upset by the cancellation of all fall sports. However, they're also confused.
The continuation of intramural sports, they said, upsets them.
Aalia Bivens, fifth year softball player, created a petition requesting fair treatment for student athletes.
“If it is unsafe for student athletes to participate in their sport, it should be unsafe for intramural sports as well,” Bivens explained.
Bivens said she created the petition to promote fairness - not to cancel intramurals.
Student athletes want answers on why UT Martin is allowing intramural sports to continue during a pandemic.
Junior point guard, Seygan Robins, signed the petition Bivens created.
“I do not see it fitting that fall sports are among those that must sacrifice while an organization such as intramural sports is allowed to continue,” Robins said.
