Chargers Bring Back Familiar Face To The Football Program

After spending the last four seasons at Camden high school, Westview brings back Matt McConnell to lead the football program.

McConnell was the lead man for the Chargers for one season back in 2019, where he led the school to the state 3a playoffs with a 6-5 record. He boasts a 68-48 overall record over 10 years of being a head coach. That includes two state semifinal appearances with the Waverly Tigers. This past season with the Lions, his offense averaged 32.8 points per game despite going 4-6.

McConnell comes back to a program with a lot of returning production on the roster that's headlined by: Cody Meeks, Tyler Belew, Cooper Spaulding, Donteze Joy, Finn Snyder, Nolan Pritchett, Malik Smith, and many more.

That wasn't the only hire made by Westview as they brought back assistant coach, Chris Coleman. Coleman was an assistant on the state championship squad in 2021, and he played at UT Martin from 2012-2016.
