Skyhawks Sweep OVC Weekend Awards For First Time While in the OVC

It was a weekend to remember for the UT Martin Skyhawk football team as they defeated the #18 Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Saturday. One of the biggest things that came from this victory was a sweep of the Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards. This marks the first time that the Skyhawks have swept the weekly awards since they have been in the OVC.

First, Quarterback John Bachus III won his second offensive player of the week and third newcomer of the week award. Bachus completed 18 passes on 32 attempts for 245 yards and two touchdowns. The Freshman QB also had 23 rushing yards for one touchdown.

Linebacker Cecil Cherry took home defensive player of the week. The Senior had a season -high 14 tackles and two of those were for a loss. Cherry added onto his already fantastic game with a game high five Quarterback hurries.

To round up the weekly awards, return-man Terry Williams grabbed the specialist of the week award. Williams had his second punt return for a touchdown on the season which helped swing the momentum of the game in the Skyhawks favor. That second touchdown makes Williams the only player in FBS or FCS football with two punt returns for a touchdown this season.
