In Virginia, Democrats won majorities in both the House and Senate. Republicans held onto the governor's office in Mississippi, beating a veteran Democrat's bid for another potential upset.

People who smoke tobacco may be at a higher risk of developing depression and schizophrenia, according to a new study. This research comes from the University of Bristol and contributes to the evidence that smoking can have a negative effect on mental health. The researchers used genetic data to examine cause and effect relationships with smoking. According to Lancet Psychiatry Commission, people with mental illnesses die up to 20 years earlier than the general population.
