History Made at ACM Awards Wednesday Night

The 55th annual Academy of Country Music Awards aired Wednesday night on CBS.


In a surprise turn of events, two of the five nominees tied for Entertainer of the Year for the first time in ACM history.


Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett were both awarded the title at the end of the night.

"We have a tie. This has got to be the first in ACM history," host Keith Urban stated before announcing the winners.


"I am more than happy to share this with Thomas Rhett," stated Underwood during her acceptance speech.


This is Rhett's first win in this category and Underwood's third. Underwood is the first woman to win this award since Taylor Swift won in 2011.

Male Artist of the year: Luke Combs

Female Artist of the year: Maren Morris

Group of the year: Old Dominion

Duo of the year: Dan + Shay

New Male artist of the year: Riley Green

New Female Artist of the year: Tenille Towens

Album of the year:"What You See Is What You Get"– Luke Combs

Single of the year: "God's Country" – Blake Shelton

Song of the year: "One Man Band" – Old Dominion

Video of the year: “Remember You Young” – Thomas Rhett
