Is a COVID-19 vaccine on the horizon?

Doctors diagnosed the first known COVID-19 case Nov. 17, 2019. Over a year later, countries are still trying to fight it off.

Americans are learning more about potential vaccines.

Moderna, an American Biotechnology company, announced Monday it's coronavirus vaccine is 94.5% effective, CNN reported.

Pfizer, an American multinational Biotechnology company, also has news on the vaccine front. According to CNN, the CEO says they'll apply for emergency use authorization by the end of this month.

Pfizer considers Tennessee, Rhode Island, New Mexico and Texas good places to start their pilot program because of their population density and vaccine infrastructure. The vaccine's initial research shows it to be 90% effective.

Experts say the vaccine is hopeful, but distributing it will prove to be an issue.

It must be stored at a lower temperature than what standard freezers can produce, KFDA reports, and it requires two doses to be effective.

When approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Pfizer will produce 100 million doses of it for the federal government.
